Credit rebuilding depends on a record of manageable payments
A secured credit card requires security under the issuer’s terms, but the deposit is not a substitute for paying the statement. Review the fees, spending limit, reporting practices and consequences of missing a payment. Credit-building claims should be assessed alongside the cost of the product and the household’s ability to maintain payments. Buying an additional financial product does not guarantee a particular score increase or approval for a future loan.
A security deposit does not replace monthly repayment
Home Trust offers a secured Visa subject to its conditions and does not make it available in Quebec. Capital One’s guaranteed Mastercard also has stated eligibility requirements, with security potentially required. Compare the actual offer rather than interpreting the word guaranteed as unrestricted access. The FCAC recommends practices such as paying on time and managing credit use; those habits matter alongside any product selected. Avoid accumulating several new applications merely to obtain a higher combined spending limit.
