Identify the check that is being excluded
A loan described as being without a credit check usually refers to the lender’s use of a credit bureau, not to an absence of all assessment. Identity, residence, account ownership and the ability to repay may still be examined. Some products instead rely on pledged property. The wording needs to be read alongside the application requirements, because avoiding one information source does not establish eligibility.
Bureau records are only one source of information
Flinks illustrates how a financial service can verify bank-account data independently of a traditional credit report. Vancity’s Fair & Fast product shows an income-based lending approach with defined access conditions. Ask a prospective creditor whether it performs a soft inquiry, a hard inquiry or neither, and whether repayments or defaults may later be reported. Those are separate questions; an application without a bureau search does not necessarily keep the subsequent borrowing off a credit file.
