Cancellation rights depend on the product and province
There is no single cancellation period covering every Canadian loan. A right to withdraw may depend on the jurisdiction, the type of credit and the way the agreement was made. Locate the cancellation section before signing, then confirm the event that starts the deadline and the procedure for giving notice. Being disappointed with an approved amount is not, by itself, evidence that a contract can be cancelled without conditions.
Find the required notice and repayment procedure
Ontario publishes specific cancellation rights for payday loans, while Quebec’s consumer protection office explains the rules for money-loan contracts and relevant exceptions. Use the guidance that matches the actual agreement instead of importing a deadline from another province. If exercising a right, keep a dated copy of the notice and evidence of delivery, and establish how the funds must be returned. A cancelled automatic debit does not necessarily cancel the underlying loan or discharge the balance.
