Begin with the employer’s payroll policy
An employer salary advance is an arrangement with the employer to receive money before the normal payment date. It is distinct from a commercial app that advances funds based on transaction history. Availability depends on workplace policy and the proposed terms; employment does not create an automatic entitlement to an advance. Ask payroll or human resources what documentation, authorisation and repayment arrangements are required.
Agree how future pay will be affected
The FCAC includes an employer advance among alternatives to consider before a payday loan. Use its Budget Planner to test the later pay periods after the agreed deductions, including any other existing commitments. Obtain written confirmation of the amount, payment date, any cost and what happens if employment ends before repayment is complete. If the reduced future salary cannot cover essentials, discuss a different schedule rather than assuming that another advance will always be offered when the next payday arrives.
