Choose a debt response after reviewing the whole budget
When several payments are becoming unmanageable, another loan may postpone the problem without addressing the underlying deficit. Assemble balances, rates, minimum payments, arrears and essential household costs before seeking help. A credit counsellor can examine the budget and discuss communication with creditors or a debt-management plan. Such a plan is distinct from a consumer proposal or bankruptcy and should not be presented as automatically binding every creditor.
Understand voluntary plans and formal proceedings
Credit Canada and the Credit Counselling Society provide nonprofit counselling and information about repayment approaches. For formal insolvency options, the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy explains the role of Licensed Insolvency Trustees and the applicable processes. Ask each organisation what it can actually provide, whether charges apply and what effects the proposed route may have on credit, assets or ongoing obligations. The appropriate solution depends on the complete financial situation, not only the size of the next overdue instalment.
